Today was "Write Love On Her Arms Day". WLOHA is an organization/charity that tries to help people who are depressed or suicidal. Truthfully I bought the shirt last summer because I liked it and had no idea it was a suicide prevention shirt. I finally found out about a month or so ago what the shirt meant. So today I made sure I wore the shirt and informed as many people that were curious. Now some of you might be wondering, Steph? why help emo people? Well let me be the first to say that I have laughed at my share of emo jokes but I take depression and suicide very seriously. I really feel like more people need to be open about this and LISTEN when someone close to them comes up and says they need to talk. I've never been suicidal, but I have been depressed many times in my life to the point that everything just stops around me and I feel like I'm an inch high.
If anyone else out there wants to help spread the love and acceptance here are some places to go!
To Write Love On Her Arms Website (buy a shirt, bag, or accessories and proceeds go to the charity)

ReplyDeletewhat a great shirt
ReplyDeleteI love the idea and thinks it's great! lovely shirt too.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for posting this! Depression is such a debilitating illness, and sadly a lot of people still don't take it seriously enough. The recent suicide of the amazing Alexander McQueen is absolute proof that it has nothing to do with social status, money, fame, or success. It can happen to any of us. I've been living with mental illness for most of my adult life, and it can be so hard sometimes.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know there are supportive people out there! <3
